A saree that tells a story

Kalamkari is one of the oldest narrative art forms in India, and this saree uses it properly. Across the black base, rows of dancing figures move in full costume — each one drawn separately, in rust, mustard, magenta, teal and cream. It is a print you keep noticing new details in, which is exactly what people say when you wear it.

Black, rust and gold

The body sits on a deep black ground that makes every colour in the print sharper. A rust-red pallu with fine gold striping runs above it, and a wide gold zari border frames the whole thing. Bands of Patola-style geometric work separate the sections, so the saree reads structured rather than busy.

A close, body-hugging drape

This is the part you will feel the moment you wear it. The fabric is smooth and fluid, so it falls close to the body instead of standing away from it — the pleats stay flat, the pallu hangs in a clean line, and the silhouette stays sleek all evening. It is the drape that makes a printed saree look expensive.

What you get

  • 5.5 m saree with all-over figurative Kalamkari print on a black base
  • 0.8 m unstitched blouse piece in plain black
  • Wide gold zari border on both edges
  • Rust-red pallu with gold striping and Patola-style geometric bands

How to style it

Antique or temple gold, nothing modern — a layered gold necklace and jhumkas, as shown. Keep the blouse plain black so the print stays the hero. Flowers in a low bun finish the traditional look. If you want it dressier for an evening event, swap in a rust or gold blouse.

Care instructions

Dry clean only. Store folded in a muslin cloth away from direct sunlight — prints on a black ground fade fastest in light. Iron on low heat on the reverse side, and never directly over the printed figures.

Occasions

Festive gatherings, Diwali, Navratri, pujas and temple visits, art and cultural events, family functions, office festive days and daytime weddings.
